IMTC Universal Multimedia Addressing Platform Activity Group
Charter
To promote the development of a platform for addressing any multimedia
end point from any multimedia end point, regardless of the service
provider or protocol in use by the systems, and to build consensus for
the platform among vendors, service providers, and users.
The IMTC Universal Multimedia Addressing Platform (UMMAP) Recommendation
A.1 defines a set of addressing guidelines which ensure that any
multimedia conferencing user or system can be uniquely identified and
signaled on the Internet. The overarching goal is that any user can be
reached at an address, regardless of the source or destination of the
call, or the source, destination or intermediate signaling protocols in
use.
Ongoing Efforts
Discussion of how to integrate various dialing schemes (E.164, GDS, SIP,
URI, IHETS, URL) and services (LDAP, H.350, DNS, ENUM) into a common,
universal system for addressing endpoints in the network, regardless of
network type.
ViDe is coordinating an interoperability and interconnection project as
a 'running code' project within UMMAP to connect the ViDe.net network to
other private and public video networks. The goal is transparent dialing
using GDS between endpoints.
