Cross-testing Policy
- The PSS group will foster cross-testing with other interoperability
groups.
- The PSS cross-testing intent and goals will be published (Website, SA4, etc)
- The cross-testing will be done as a group task. That is, the group will decide whether or not to take up a particular cross-testing activity
when such an opportunity presents itself, and the group will determine whether the required resources can be spared from the main PSS testing tasks.
- Cross testing will be planned carefully so that no delay is caused to the groups internal testing schedule.
- The PSS group should consider whether the other group has the resources and energy to participate at the typical PSS-AG level (reciprocal agreement).
- Cross testing will be planned to avoid creating recruiting conflict (i.e. these activities should not create any reason for potential members not to join PSS-AG).
- Cross testing should be planned to result in a defined advantage (e.g Technical, PR, etc)
- Confidentiality will be kept during the cross testing (Mutual Rules of Engagement (ROE)). Its implementation will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
- Main reasons for cross-testing:
- Explore interworking between PSS and other metastandards (e.g. can 3GPP content be useful in the ISMA world, and vice versa? Can our implementations read MP4 files created for the ISMA world, properly ignoring the unsupported tracks and atoms?)
- Obtain other perspectives on our content and our components (i.e. M4IF and ISMA are MPEG-centric, and so may review our work from an MPEG experts perspective)
- Evangelize our work; influence other interoperability bodies
- Reuse procedures and share testing effort when possible. E.g. this is the case for joint efforts between IMTC PSS-AG and H324-AG.
- Participation in cross-tests is optional per company, particularly for resource-intensive tasks like testing files from other groups. An
internal poll will be taken to determine how many companies are willing to actively participate. If the number is not sufficient, then PSS-AG will not take on the given cross-testing task
